Knocking on Quan Ba skydoor

Ha Giang Province is famous for Dong Van Geopark which is recognized as a Karst Plateau Global Geopark by UNESCO.

The gateway to the geopark is called Quan Ba by local people meaning skydoor due to its height and the fact that fog always covers the top, which makes people think it is the door to the sky.

Not only that but it has a magnificent panoramic view of Tam Son City appearing in the green valley below.

It is also the perfect spot to appreciate the beautiful Fairy Twin Mountains which lie in among the rice fields.

Its reverse bowl shape has made the Twin Mountains special from other mountains. The mountains resemble a woman’s breasts - that’s why in local language they call them fairy twins.

It takes around half an hour from Tam Son City to Quan Ba skydoor. The road is poor and is full of large trucks which slow your speed considerably as you have to be very careful to avoid accidents. Tourists can stay at Tam Son City which has nice hotels and restaurants.

In addition to Quan Ba skydoor and Fairy Twin Mountains, tourists may find it interesting to go to Quan Ba market day or the Hop Tien Weaving village of H’Mong minority people.

Old pagodas in Bich Dong

The historical province of Ninh Binh comprises of three different types of landscape - wetlands, coastal delta and uplands - and is endowed with many places of interest for tourists such as Tam Coc-Bich Dong Grotto, Cuc Phuong National Park and Van Long Nature Reserve.

The three old pagodas on Bich Dong, a grotto located in the Ngu Hanh Son mountain range, in Dam hamlet, Minh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district is particularly interesting. A short boat trip will take tourists to a beautiful landscape with canals meandering between high rocks and grottoes.

In the 18th century King Tu Duc visited Bich Dong. Charmed by the marvelous scenery offered by the mountains, rivers and cliff top pagodas, the King conferred on Bich Dong the title of ‘the Second Most Beautiful Grotto in Vietnam’.

The number one grotto title belongs to Huong Tich Grotto in Ha Tay, Hanoi.

Tam Coc-Bich Dong Tourist Area in Ninh Hai Commune, Hoa Lu District in Ninh Binh Province is a very popular area and in comparison with Tam Coc Grotto, Bich Dong is less popular but it would be a mistake to miss out.

We were keen to visit Bich Dong but we were surprised that there were no monks or Buddhist nuns near the pagoda – we were met instead by some local boat hirers on Hoang Long River. Bich Dong Cave is surrounded by Hoang Long River and features a lot of lotus which sets the area into a romantic and peaceful space.

Along the path to the pagoda, we were amazed by a limestone mountain ahead with a space for many green trees below. On the road are many souvenir vendors waiting for tourists’ curiosity and admiration and cash of course.

Visiting Bich Dong Pagoda, you will have chance to learn about the architecture style as well as the traditional values, which are contained in each construction in the complex. The first destination to be visited is the Ha (Lower) Pagoda, which is situated right at the foot of the mountain. The pagoda features special patterns of roofs. The roofs curve like the tail of phoenix and the remains of traditions and history can be seen on crags, steles, and trees.

The Pagoda worships Tam Bao, Buddha and the three monks Tri Kien, Tri The, Tri Tam – who had great contribution in constructing and upgrading this pagoda.

After visiting Ha Pagoda, you will reach Trung (Middle) Pagoda. The path leading to this pagoda is covered by the shade of huge trees. Trung Pagoda was constructed according to a popular pagoda model. The main presbytery is the Buddha altar with a big calligraphic character, which has the inscription “Linh Son Phat Hoi”. On the right hand side is a path leading to the Toi Grotto (the Dark Grotto). Moving through the 20 steps, tourists will see a copper bell and a bridge where the victims of injustice ask for justice.

It is said that such people who were unjustly treated ring the bell three times, then they will be relieved of their pain. In the French colonial period, this was a place where weapons were produced for Vietnamese patriots.

The stalactites in the Dark Grotto, under the invisible hand of nature, form magical shapes among the gloomy light. The strange and interesting shapes there have become part of folklore due to the imaginations of local people. The Dark Grotto worships the Buddha and the Mau Thuong Ngan with stalactites shaped like a whale and a turtle’s shell.

Upon getting out of the Dark Grotto, take 30 more steps and tourists will reach the Thuong (Upper) Pagoda (it is also referred to as the East Pagoda since it faces the east). This is the smallest-scale pagoda among the three pagodas mentioned here since it only worships Phat Ba Quan Am. The temples of the God of Mountain and of Land are located at the two sides of the pagoda. From there, you will have a wonderful view of the beautiful landscape, peaceful villages, the beauty of the mountain and forest that nature has blessed the land of Ninh Binh.

The location for this pagoda was chosen in 1428 after two monks were charmed by the view of the river and the mountains. Later, King Le Canh Hung wrote a poem in honor of the beautiful pagoda and landscape.

Colorful market day of Nam Dan

The northern district of Nam Dan is not only interesting for its ancient rock field but also for its colorful market day, which is a flurry of activity every Saturday morning.

It is located in Xin Man commune, Ha Giang Province and visitors are recommended to visit this beautiful area at least once. They can reach the area by using the road that goes through Deo Gio hill and leads to the beautiful Xin Man ladder rice field.

Market day attracts not only minority people of H’Mong and Dao but also the Kinh, the biggest ethnic group in Vietnam to purchase goods.

At the market, visitors can find local agricultural products and some consumer goods imported from China. If they are lucky, visitors can find some rare herbal goods that minority people locate in the pristine forest nearby.

The market also serves hot breakfast and lunch featuring a tasty noodle and pork dish. Note the market only takes place on Saturday mornings.

AM: Our guide will pick up at your hotel. Then we have a two hour drive through the picturesque countryside and back roads to the village of Duc , where we get on a small boat for a one hour trip up Yen Vy stream to Thien Tru Quay . You may trek up (or take cable car) to the mountain to Perfume Pagoda.

PM: Lunch box will be ready after that. Going down and then get to Thien Tru Quay to visit more beautiful and precious sculptures, taking photos, worshipping, getting on boat again back to Duc wharf. Driving back to Hanoi around 5:00 PM. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 3: Hanoi City Tour - Sapa (B, L)

AM: Getting started from your hotel for Hanoi tour, driving to visit Ho Chi Minh complex, including Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum – the final resting place of the Vietnamese great father or uncle Ho, President Ho Chi Minh’s stilt House – where he lived on and off from 1958 to 1969, the next place to move to is One Pillar Pagoda – a group of structures consisting of a pagoda and a tower built in the middle of a square lake. Leave One Pillar Pagoda and transfer to West Lake, visit Tran Quoc pagoda then having lunch.

PM: After lunch, you will be transferred to visit the Temple of literature. Continue to visit Museum of Ethnology – the most interesting museum in Hanoi with many different things relating the 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups. After that, you will visit Hoan Kiem lake (Restore Sword Lake). Day 4: Sapa Home-stay Tour - Ta Van Village (B, L, D)

AM: The train arrives in Lao Cai around 6.00 AM, our driver pick you up to Sapa about 50 minutes on Car / Van, you will be taken to a small guesthouse for a morning showers then your breakfast at a local restaurant here. After breakfast & short morning beak, we start trekking from Sapa town. Sapa trekking route is from here to through the villages of Hmong and Zay people, chances to meet the locals working on the mountainsides or the rice terraces, kids ride on back of buffalo, to take photograph ofpicturesque valleys & awesome scenery. We have picnic lunch on trekking route.

After lunch keep on trekking to Ta Van village of Zay people, where you will be warmly welcomed by the host, share the dinner with them, and stay at their traditional wooden house. Have dinner and homestay in Tavan village at Dzay family.

Day 5: Sapa Tour - Giang Ta Chai Village (B, L, D)

AM: After breakfast; we are on the beaten track to Giang Ta Chai village of the Red Dzao minority via the paths between terraces and through bamboo forests. Visit silver waterfall and suspension Rattan Bridge, visit the people in the village and then cross Muong Hoa River up to the mountain to visit the last village of the trek - Supan village of the H\'mong then having picnic lunch.
PM: Get back to Sapa by Car / Van. On the way back, enjoy visiting the ancient stone circle where stones are decorated with ancient carvings. Check in hotel. and your free time to exploreSapa town. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 6: Sapa - Cat Cat Village - Hanoi (B, L, D)

AM: Breakfast, visit village of the black H\'mong (Cat Cat village), walk around visiting people in the village and the hydroelectric power station built by the French in the old days.Back town have lunch

PM: Check out hotel, free to explore the town. At about 5 PM. drive to Lao Cai station for a night train back to Hanoi. Overnight in soft sleep train.

Day 7: Hanoi - Halong Bay Cruise (B, L, D)

AM: After breakfast at hotel, our van will pick you up and we start our 4-hours drive to Halong City stopping on the way for some refreshments and local hospitality. Upon arrival at Halong Bay, we transfer to our boat for a cruise in the stunning Halong Bay. Sea food lunch will be served on board.

PM: After lunch we will have opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful caves of Halong, Surprise Cave. From here we take our boats to the Ti Top Beach, where we can have a swim or climb up to the top of the island for outstanding panoramic view of the Bay. Stay overnight on cruise.

Day 8: Halong Bay Tour - Hanoi- Hue (B, L)

Enjoying sunrise breakfast and cruising around the clear & emerald water to another part of Halong bay with a close up view of stunning limestone peaks …Stopping at Gia Luan Dock for picking up-dropping off passengers and keeping on another side toward Halong harbor. PM: Going to our office in Hoi An by yourself, and join with group for bicycle tour. Spend half day leisurely cycling though the scenic countryside of Vietnam, far from the traffic the motor scooters, and the noises the city. You will cross the islands on the Song Thu river delta using local transportation, including ferries and floating bridges. Going back Hoi An around 5:30 PM Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 11: Hoi An - My Son Holy Land Tour (B, L)

Located in a lush valley, My Son was a capital and religious center of Cham people, now remaining with red brick towers and sanctuaries. My Son, considered to be in the same league as some of Southeast Asia\'s greatest archaeological sites, including Angkor in Cambodia, Bagan in Myanmar, Ayutthaya in Thailand and Borobudur in Indonesia. Day 12: Hoi An - Da Nang - Train to Nha Trang (B)

Day 13: Nha Trang Islands Tour (B, L)

AM: Pick up from the hotel transfer to the Cau Da harbor get on the boat to sail out. First diving sites are located around the bay of Nha Trang. AM: Leave Saigon for My Tho. My Tho is located on the northern banks of the Mekong river and is the closest town in the Delta area to Ho Chi Minh City, about 2 hours drive away. In the center of the town close to the river there is a large market that sells just about anything that can be eaten or is used in day to day business. Around the My Tho area you will find a maze of small canals that can be explored on one of the many organized boat tours. Enjoy a boat ride on the MekongRiver and visit an orchard on an island, with lunch en route. Continue with a visit to a snake farm and then continue driving to Can Tho. Check-in hotel and stay overnight in Can Tho.

Day 20: Mekong River Tour - Chau Doc (B, L, D)

Day 1: Arrival - Ho Chi Minh City Tour

Upon your arrival at Tan Son Nhat Airport, you will be welcomed by Vietnam Phoenix Tourguide and transferred to hotel in Ho Chi Minh or Saigon city, still called Saigon by many locals, is crowded with motorbikes and cars, excited by numerous shopping area and sidewalk cafés. An afternoon city tour takes us to the Reunification Palace which was the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until the end of April 1975. Close to the palace are some beautiful French colonial structures including the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Saigon Post Office. We also visit the Jade Emperor Pagoda and the War Remnant before we continue to the bustling Ben Thanh Market where anything and everything is for sale. AM: Getting started from your hotel at 8.30 AM for Hanoi Tour, driving to visit Ho Chi Minh complex, including Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum – the final resting place of the Vietnamese great father or uncle Ho, President Ho Chi Minh’s stilt House – where he lived on and off from 1958 to 1969, the next place to move to is One Pillar Pagoda – a group of structures consisting of a pagoda and a tower built in the middle of a square lake. Leave One Pillar Pagoda and transfer to West Lake, visit Tran Quoc pagoda. Having lunch.

PM: After lunch, you will be transferred to visit the Temple of literature. Continue to visit Museum of Ethnology – the most interesting museum in Hanoi with many different things relating the 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups. After that, you will visit Hoan Kiem Lake (Restore Sword Lake).

Day 6: Hanoi - Halong Bay Cruise (B, L, D)

08:00 – 8:15 AM: Pick you up at your hotel. On the way to Halong Bay enjoy the journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and the scenery of rice fields, water buffalo and everyday Vietnamese village life. Arrive in Halong board Halong Phoenix Cruiser . Lunch is served with a welcome drink while the boat is cruising the bay to enjoy the beautiful limestone seascape with Fighting cock, Dog Rock and Incense Burner . After visiting Amazing cave we stop at a floating house and go kayaking to Luon cave to enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the bay.
